Building the First Social Network for Women in Energy
Pink Petro was the world's first social media platform dedicated to women in the oil and gas industry. Founded on a cocktail napkin aboard a 777 by Katie Mehnert, she launched in 2014 and grew to 50,000+ members across 100+ countries, creating a global community for women to advance their careers and change the face of energy.
Katie launched Pink Petro after recognizing a critical gap: women in energy had no dedicated space to network, share opportunities, and amplify their voices. The first ever HER World Energy Forum hosted 2,000 in person and online in 2016 and grew to 25,000 viewers digitally — using livestreaming technology before it became mainstream. The platform became a movement more welcoming of women in the energy C-suite and field.
A former oil and gas executive with Shell and BP, Katie was an early mover giving women in energy a platform to be heard and seen.
