So what do you do????

So it's been about 4 months and people keep asking me, what is it that you do?  In a nutshell, I seek to eliminate risk and harm to our people and the planet.  It's a cool job.  My operating principle is simple:  have courage.  Do what's right and tell people what they need to hear rather than what they want to hear.  It isn't easy but if it was, everyone would do it, right?

The experience hire recruitment team asked me to provide a bio this week for an upcoming video shoot we're doing to seek female talent.  This is a HUGE passion of mine: developing others, and in particular females.   While I find it really easy to help others with such an activity, I found it difficult bragging on myself in a few short paragraphs. Here goes...

Katie Mehnert, PMP, is the Director, Program Integration Competency Management in Central (S&OR) Safety & Operational Risk.  Katie is an energy risk leader with 15 years of experience building, leading, and delivering in high performance teams.  Her specialty is mobilizing and delivering systematic change programs that improve and protect enterprise value. She joined BP in April 2012 from Royal Dutch Shell where she led complex risk management and enterprise change initiatives in Upstream, Downstream and Projects.

Prior to joining Shell, Katie was an operational excellence consultant in the energy, high technology and financial sectors delivering performance improvement programs for Global 100 and Fortune 500 companies and a few venture startups.
Katie is a member of the Consumer Energy Alliance and the Women’s Energy Network.  An avid D&I leader, she has a passion for the progression of women. Katie graduated from Louisiana State University, enjoys marathon running and spending time with her husband, Mark and young daughter Ally.

So, that's what I do.  Oh, and did I mention how much I love to run?
