Be THAT Woman

I love meeting "THAT" women.

She exists in many dimensions: older, younger, somewhere in between.  She has certain characteristics and flare like some of the women I mention below ...

Yesterday I met up with a friend and colleague I rarely get to see.  Danetta is a smart, polished, no-nonsense kind of woman.  My favorite part is her "no drama" edge.  She's got thick skin and she knows how to cut to the heart of the matter.  She believes in making herself better, her industry better and the world better.  So I think to myself...

Be THAT Woman.

On New Years Eve, Ally and I visited with a long time friend and sorority sister Jennifer.  She is a former corporate gal gone successful entrepreneur.  She's crafty, organized, a DIY, mommy and wife with a vast array of talents.  She always has an answer, is helpful and if she can't do it herself, she knows someone who can.  She's a CAN-DO.    It makes me think to myself...

Be THAT Woman.

In December, I got to reconnect with three of my mentors.  Peggy is an energy executive.  Cheryl is a corporate storyteller. Laura is a financial maven (AKA CFO).   All three women are risk takers, confident, and savvy.  They are my go-to's when I have career and motherhood questions.  They've helped me navigate a man's world and their sense of balance is soothing, and brings a level of reverence to my mind that, "dammit, yes I can do this".  When I'm around them, I always think to myself ...

Be THAT Woman.

And then there are those mentors from my past, who live afar but are always a phone call or email or Facebook post away.  Lori, the marketing diva.  Professor Voegtli, my college cheerleader.  And, Ms. Rucker...who had the reputation for being called Ms. F**ker in high school because she was such a tough chick.  And I think to myself...

Be THAT Woman.

Finally I look at my child.  She just turned 3.  She makes me laugh.  She makes me cry.  She has taught me so many things and made me a better mother, wife, and friend. Man, she's smart...beautiful....and real.  And I think... WOW...

She's THAT little Girl Soon to Be THAT Woman.

I've been blessed to come to know so many women...so many talented, amazing, remarkable women.  It makes me think...

Be THAT smart, polished, no-nonsense, talented, DIY super-connector mom and corporate career woman who knows how to market, cheer on and teach others.

And THAT is the woman I'm striving to be.

My thanks to all who shape my thinking, my learning and this journey.  There are so many more...and I look forward to featuring them all here in 2014.

Here's to GOOD, no wait REMARKABLE women - may we know them, may we be them, and may we raise them.
