Leave Your Legacy

Do you ever get up and go to work hoping for 5:00 pm?  Or perhaps you get up and don't know where the time goes?  If tomorrow wasn't a promise, what would you do today?  What would you spend today thinking about?

In a few weeks I'll be launching Pink Petro. This idea started on the outside of a cocktail napkin one fateful day when I got stuck on the tarmac in London awaiting a trip home.  It was supposed to be something I'd do in between roles.  But last summer, it became real.

Last week I received a twitter message from someone who saw me speak at a conference last year.  Her words comforted me.  She said, "I don't know how you do it. But your husband and child know they have a winner. I think it's really important for women to see female leaders like you taking chances."

That got me thinking.  I'd rather fail miserably than to have never tried.

Living and leaving your legacy isn't about chance.

It's about doing precisely what you're supposed to do.  It's knowing that no matter what energy, resources, and effort you're putting into it, you get up every day knowing you're doing the right things.

A colleague of mine, Joel sent this to me this weekend.  It's a powerful reminder of why we are all here.

Forget taking chances.  Live and leave your legacy.
